Two brothers have established a revolutionary online celebration service that enables people celebrating a special occasion to build a gift wish-list that includes their favourite charity.
The first of its kind in the world, timto’s online service enables party guests to combine their generosity to give memorable gifts collectively and feel-good in the knowledge that a charitable donation has also been made on their behalf.
The idea originated at a family birthday party when co-founder Nathan Cornish’s daughter received an overwhelming number of presents at her party. It prompted research into children’s birthdays which identified that £1bn is spent every year on children’s party presents. What was equally staggering was that almost £200m is spent on gifts that are never actually used. From that point onwards the concept started to take shape and name of timto was created to represent the phrase ‘there is more to’.
Timto originally launched as a children’s gift service in 2010, but such was the demand from parents asking if they could use the service for their own forthcoming celebrations that plans were accelerated to launch a full celebration range. From significant birthdays to anniversaries, from 'thank you' to christenings, friends can now be confident that they have contributed towards a great gift and feel-good knowing that they have also helped a good cause too. Timto’s time saving service is also perfect for busy work places, as colleagues no longer need to physically collect money to give a gift together when they say ‘bon voyage’.
The online service timto.co.uk, which is a member of Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB), now works in association with a host of well-known retailers such as Amazon.co.uk, The Entertainer and Red letter days to deliver an extensive range of gifts and treats.
Feedback from both national and regional charities that timto are working with has been extremely positive including Variety Club and Wallace & Gromit children’s foundation and Children Hospice’s UK to name just a few. Significantly the celebrator chooses the charity to support decides how much of the total money contributed to donate, which can also be boosted by gift aid.
The company aims to raise £1million for charities over the next three years, with the long term objective of being identified as a significant fundraising e-commerce organisation.
Free optional extras to enhance the party experience, include an online memento page that enables guests to add their best messages and a RSVP service. Nathan added “We hope our innovative gift service brings a new dimension to any celebration and helps people to fundraise for the causes that are important to them.”
