timto makes it fun, easy and inclusive for people to give to charity when they have an occasion to celebrate. We honour the traditions of a gift and hope that this act of good citizenship encourages more people to take the extra step towards caring for others in society.
The idea originated from children's birthday's and we hope to encourage children and their families to help other children. Our research into children’s birthdays alone indicates that every year £200m worth of presents are never used. If timto can help redistribute a proportion of this wasted expenditure whilst making the celebration gifts better than ever, we can bring about significant social and environmental benefit.
We promote the principle of global citizenship as we believe society instinctively looks for imaginative ways to help and care for others. Whilst the act of raising funds for charity is in itself significant, the ability to raise awareness for a charity within its community is also an important aspect.
The process of deciding which charity to support and then explaining why you choose them to peers can be a powerful and lasting experience. We have also taken important steps to make the service inclusive:
-
It is free for any party guest to post a message, even if they do not contribute towards the collective gift.
-
The amount that an individual contributes is not disclosed. This means that an individual can contribute what they would normally spend on a gift without feeling pressured into ‘matching’ others contributions.
Our trip to the cabinet office
February 2011 we were invited to discuss our concept with representatives of the UK Government Cabinet Office in relation to the ‘Giving’ White Paper and how the concept of ‘timto’ could encourage the children & families of Britain to ‘give’. Click here to find out more about us our company values.
